Iceland - give me your recs!

Planning a 10 day trip to Iceland in September. We're debating between renting a camper or staying in hotels/b&b's. If you went, what did you do? Ring road or something else? F road capable vehicle? Did you buy a self drive package or work out all the details yourself? Anything else I should think about?

Day Trips From Bar Harbor Maine

My wife and I will be camping for 5 nights in Bar Harbor in mid-September - planning to spend most of our time exploring Acadia, but open to a fun day trip if anybody has suggestions. I'd probably want to limit the driving part of the day trip to no more than 2 hours each way if we are going to a specific place.

Long (cheap) walks in the US

A friend and I are planning to walk the Camino de Santiago next year. We’d like to do a 1-2 week practice walk beforehand, somewhere in the US (probably the east or midwest). We need to keep costs down, so we’d probably camp (but we’d also rather not carry a ton of food, if we can help it). We’re looking at doing one of the old canal trails (but camping seems to be pricey there), or maybe a stretch of the AT (VA looks good). Ideas?

Help me make a camping/travel fun kit for my kids.

My family spends a lot of the summer traveling and at times camping for business reasons, and my kids (ages seven and ten) kind of hate it - or at least they think they do. I want to make a kit of fun, non-electronic, highly portable stuff to try to distract them from their misery. Besides computers, their interests include nature stuff, games, answering questions, reading (especially comics), arts and crafts and not camping. But seriously, stuff to feel more at home or comfortable on the road would be good, too.

Where's all the "great" camping and sightseeing spots on these plains?

None of us have traveled in this area before, so we are all complete newbies to everything Great Plains/Midwest. Could anyone share ideas of what to see and where to camp along a general route of going from Springfield, MO north to Sioux Falls, SD and then across South Dakota to Mt. Rushmore? Talk me through water filtration and purification

As I'm spending more and more time on bike trips where there are many long stretches without access to reliable tap water, I'm starting to investigate water filters and purifiers as a supplement/backup solution in case the extra water I carry runs out or spills or whatever. But there are so many kinds, and some of them seem really sketchy, and I'm getting overwhelmed! Can you point me to a good, comprehensive resource on how to choose and use water purifiers and filters? Or can you talk me through a typical real-world use? Take for granted that I'll be using them within the US and am unlikely to be traveling in areas where the natural water supply is seriously contaminated.
