I had covid, but the test still comes up positive. Can I go out?
I had covid and was only mildly sick for a few days. Now I feel completely back to normal, but the rapid antigen tests are still showing as positive. Can I leave my apartment and see others?
One of my close friends is immunocompromised. Should I avoid hanging out with her?
Would simply wearing a mask everywhere be the solution?
Still Covid-positive on home antigen tests on Day 20
I’ve heard people can test positive for weeks or months, but that seems to be on PCR tests, and/or people with underlying health issues or who had severe symptoms. It seems unusual for someone like me. Is it? What might it mean? Data and anecdata both welcome. [more inside]
Late COVID Booster
I didn’t get the bivalent COVID booster last year for pregnancy-related reasons. Now that I’m emerging from the newborn fog and preparing to go back to work, I was going to get the shot next week. However, I’ve learned there will be a new monovalent booster this fall targeting a more recent variant. What should I do? [more inside]
How do I take care of my "new" (or current) lungs?
So I have long covid. My lungs have recently been x-rayed and listened to, and doctors have no concerns, so that's good. But breathing *feels* really scary and coughing feels *really* scary. (I'm also starting therapy.) And I wake up with burning lungs. I've never had breathing trouble, and I don't have asthma, so all this is new to me. What are some go-to tips for being kind to my lungs? Buy a humidifier?
When should I test after a close coronavirus exposure.
What should my testing schedule be after being exposed to coronavirus? [more inside]
Covid & Self & Society
If you are answering this question, you have been able to keep your covid caution level (or at the very least, until the past week or so) approximately similar to or more cautious than my own.** [more inside]
Check for recent asymptomatic Covid before getting new booster?
As far as I know, I haven’t had Covid yet. No positive tests and no symptoms. This seems really unlikely, though, since at minimum 70% of the US population has been infected, according to CDC data from July. So if I’ve actually had a recent asymptomatic case, how should that inform my timing for getting the updated booster — wouldn’t it be best to wait 2-3 months as is recommended for anyone who’s had a symptomatic case? Should asymptomatic people try to determine whether they have, in fact, had a recent infection before getting a booster? [more inside]
Help me continue to work from home
I live in the UK and have been working from home since the first lockdown in March 2020. My employer is now trying to get everyone back onsite, but I have asked to continue to work from home as a 'reasonable adjustment' and need some advice. [more inside]
Infection risk being around people who are still + after 10 days are up
We're doing our show tomorrow night after it became a super spreader event 2 weeks ago. Supposedly after 10 days you are not supposed to be infectious. One person told me that on day 10 they are still testing positive. How worried should I be? [more inside]
Medical research or study when one person in household has coronavirus?
Are there any medical research studies when one person in a household has Covid and the other doesn’t? This is in NYC. [more inside]
What is going on with my COVID-19 test results?
I first tested positive for COVID-19 on a lateral flow test three weeks ago, followed by a series of intermittent positive and negative test results. More than a week after my last positive test result, I tested positive again. I do not understand what’s happening. [more inside]
Help me evaluate the COVID risk of returning to the office
Yet another COVID risk assessment question. tl;dr: Given that my toddler is in daycare, is my risk profile already so high that I shouldn't worry about the additional COVID risk from me returning to the office? [more inside]
What does it feel like to have the virus pass you by?
So you're fully vaccinated. You're exposed to someone with the coronavirus. You do not contract the virus. How does it feel when your vaccinated immune system successfully fights off the virus? Is this something you wouldn't even notice? Or could you feel off-kilter for a short term basis as your vaccine-trained immune system does its work? [more inside]
Best writing on the COVID-19 pandemic?
I'm looking for non-fiction articles or books about the COVID-19 pandemic that people have found particularly insightful. Ideally, this should be as big-picture as possible: What does the pandemic mean for society, history, science, and the world? [more inside]
When are rapid COVID-19 tests going to be available in the U.S. again?
I know this is AskMe, not an ouija board or God, but since many MeFites are more well-read than me I wanted to know if there are estimates out there for dates when rapid tests will be available in stores. Where I live (California) there are no tests anywhere in stores or online and I haven't been able to find date estimates when I read the news. [more inside]
Covid best practices after one person in home travels?
Boostered partner flew to another city to visit with boostered family members, gets back today. I may be at higher risk for illness (asthma, overweight). What is best practice here for testing and distancing for covid safety? [more inside]
Omicron justifies wait?
Is the rapid rise of the novel-est strain enough excuse to postpone flying out to meet family this week? [more inside]
Yet another "travelling in the time of Covid" question
Looking to hear your experiences of changing travel plans as a result of testing positive for Covid. What did you do? How did you know when to rebook your flight for? This hasn't happened to me (yet), but I'm curious as to how to manage such a situation should it arise. [more inside]
Any reason to postpone a trip to Germany in a month?
What are the prospects for a New Year’s Eve vacation to Germany and Amsterdam from NYC? What is the chance we might have to quarantine, or is there any other important reason that we might want to postpone this trip? [more inside]
Is the FDA-approved Covid vaccine the one they're giving people?
I know, yes. Yes, it is. But, like a lot of people, we have a family friend who has been watching too much Fox News, and is holding off getting vaccinated because, among other things, she claims the government pulled some kind of bait and switch, and the vaccines the FDA approved are not the ones being administered to patients. [more inside]
Statistics on how many people have received each COVID vaccine?
I'd like to know how many people have received the various COVID vaccines (at least the ones available in the US). I have a friend that is vaccine hesitant but it's starting to interfere with their life (can't go to big concerts without a recent test/can't eat inside a restaurant/etc.). I'd like some data to show them how them how many people have taken them and how many have recorded reactions. [more inside]
How long do I keep testing after exposure?
On Sunday, I was next to a person for hours who got diagnosed with Covid the next day. How long do I keep testing to see if I got it? [more inside]
Suffering with nasal congestion in August for the first time ever...
Does anyone know if this a possible side effect of either covid19 OR the moderna vaccine? I have awful hay fever much earlier, late spring early Summer, but I've never suffered with nasal congestion (that's the only symptom) like I am this year.
What advocacy is happening around extending unemployment insurance?
Are there any national organizations or national campaigns working to extend unemployment insurance or provide other benefits for people who are unemployed, in regards to the September 5th deadline?
How to handle unvaccinated housemate/tenant?
My partner (we'll call him Martin; we don't live together) just found out his housemate/tenant (Jasper) isn't vaccinated against Covid. This came up because they are looking for an additional person to move in, and a potential tenant asked about vaccination status. It's a large house and there are currently three of them; both my partner and the other housemate (Darrell) are vaccinated. My partner isn't sure how to handle this. I'm also not sure how to handle this. Can you help? [more inside]
Covid sanity check: Am I being unreasonable, or is everyone else?
My workplace isn't mounting much of a response to the Delta surge. I'm in a very small minority of employees who are surprised and upset about this laxness. I'd like some outside opinions on whether I'm being unreasonable. [more inside]
Delta closing schools
I've heard about a few school districts closing schools right away this fall due to rapid COVID spread. But they are places that weren't masking. Are there accounts of school districts with mask requirements closing down or experiencing rapid spread this fall? Thanks!

How do I get my apartment building to require masks?

How likely are infants to be sources of COVID-19 transmission?
After a painful year+ of necessary separation, my partner and I are planning cross-country flight to see partner's 1.5-year-old nibling and are trying to understand the risks posed by the fact that while we and nibling's caregivers are fully vaccinated, other people who will have close contact before our visit will not be. On returning to the gym
UK Mefites - are any of you going to the gym? What have your experiences of using the gym been at this point during the pandemic? [more inside]
Why does a moderate amount of vaccination not majorly cut covid rates?
If the growth is exponential, isn't even a relatively small amount of vaccination going to cut the exponent? Naively I would think that if the R value is, say, 1.1, then vaccination of 30% of the population would drop it to 0.8, which would extinguish the outbreak (or at least decrease it massively). What's going on? [more inside]
What does only being able to get a single dose of a COVID vaccine mean?
I had a mild allergic reaction (hives) to my first Pfizer COVID vaccine 15 minutes after the injection. The CDC says I shouldn't get the second dose, and my doctor agrees. What does that mean for me? [more inside]
What do we know about taking more than one vaccine?
A late middle-aged, fully vaccinated (Pfizer x2) relative has an opportunity through his workplace to get a J&J injection in about ten days. He insists this is a no-brainer, and because it's through his employer, he would not be taking a dose from someone else. I'm not sure this is a good idea, but I can't find much actual evidence for my concern. Where is the science on doubling/tripling up on vaccines? [more inside]
Did I ruin my vaccination? Quercetin and antibody response
I came across this abstract, which suggests that quercetin supplements reduce antibody response in...a non-coronavirus. But I have been taking quercetin. [more inside]
My friends lied and got the covid vaccine. How bogus is their excuse?
My longtime friends live in NYC. They went to a vaccine center and lied on a form. They claimed to have comorbidities when they do not. They both got the covid vaccine.
They defended themselves by saying there are plenty of available vaccine appointments in pharmacies throughout NYC. As a result, they claim that they didn't take vaccine away from anyone. This seems obviously illogical to me, since they were not in the next tranche of eligible people.
How do I gauge whether they were knowingly selfish, versus had genuinely convinced themselves that their action was harmless? [more inside]

Where to buy N95, KN95, and/or KF94 masks?
We have and use cloth masks for most encounters and excursions, but I'd like to purchase a few masks for our household specifically for the occasional unavoidable trip or encounter that feels higher risk. Where can I go and have a good chance of not buying counterfeits? [more inside]
Which is least-bad for a 1500-mile trip in Feb: fly or drive?
I am moving from Texas to California (~1500 miles) in late February. I can't figure out, based on current information, which is least-bad: flying or driving. I have a few pros and cons for each and I'm genuinely torn. Can you provide any insight on which is safer? [more inside]

What is causing the majority of Covid vaccine doses "distributed" to not be administered? Depending on what numbers I see 50-75% have not been given. [more inside]
Coronavirus vaccine velocity
Is anyone tracking in great detail and publishing regularly on how quickly the USA is vaccinating people? I would like to see regular updates on details like how many people were vaccinated each day, whether we are vaccinating more people per day or about the same number per day, how many doses are available and how many more are being manufactured, how many people have gotten their second dose, etc. I have only found snapshots, nothing looking at change over time. Disinfecting car after service: COVID edition
My car is due for service in a few weeks. It will need some significant work (but probably all done in a day). My concern is about mechanics working inside the car and driving it without wearing masks (or wearing them properly). How do I disinfect my car when I pick it up, so that I'll be able to drive it home safely? (Anxiety triggers ahead...) [more inside]
Husband has a fever. What next?
Husband came home from work with a fever. It's a tiny house and we -- me + teenager -- have all been on top of each other every day since forever. Is there any point now in trying to segregate my husband? We don't have a particularly easy way to do it -- yes, we can put him in my kid's room but it's a tiny house. The bedrooms are right next to each other. I'm thinking no matter what it is -- Covid or regular flu or whatever -- we've all been exposed already. Am I wrong? Help.
