Must see theatre in London fall 2022

I'll be in London in September 2022 and would love to catch some shows. What's good for plays, musicals, and opera?

Open to anything but would particularly like to see something in the West End at least one night. I checked reviews on the Guardian but I'm also not sure what a good place for current reviews is.

If you're open to immersive, mostly dance-based theatre, then some of the best in the business, Punchdrunk, have their new show The Burnt City running at Woolwich. The location is pretty far from the West End and the tourist trail, but with the new Elizabeth Line trains is very accessible (note those trains are not yet running on Sundays). If you haven't done a show like that before I think some non-spoilery tips are helpful, so if you end up booking, drop me a message and I'll happily dispense some!

I'm not that up on what's on in the West End proper, but good venues to check out for plays include The Old Vic, The Young Vic, The Bridge Theatre, The Almeida, Trafalgar Studios, Donmar Warehouse, and the good old National Theatre.

Several years ago, I had a delightful time being a groundling at the Globe's production of Midsummer Night's Dream... on actual midsummer! I'm short but arrived early and had no trouble seeing the action.

Not sure if they are still doing that, what with covid and all, but it was a fantastic way to spend an evening on the cheap. You can also get, like, actual seats too (with or without cushion). It looks like they have a great selection of plays for Sept 2022

The Globe is doing Groundling tickets. I saw Lear there as a Groundling last weekend and am booked to see The Tempest next Saturday.

I'd also check out Wilton's Music Hall in Whitechapel. They have a great range of shows and it's an extraordinary venue.
