For System 6.x - Mac OS 9
Emulation
This app works with: SheepShaver, Basilisk II, Mini vMac

Double-XX is a HyperCard stack to be used with CompileIt! to create complete 68K Mac applications that don't require HyperCard to run.

[…] Double-XX/Lite, for building full HyperCard-like applications in CompileIt. It includes a simple text editor as a demo, but I doubt if it will compile on the Demo version of CompileIt.

The full version of DoubleXX supports AppleScript and has a lot more HyperCard-like commands that you can use in your compiled scripts, plus the ability to bypass the text callback mechanism for faster execution. Unfortunately the user manual (which I also do not own) is a lot more necessary for understanding how to run DoubleXX.

I can't find any release disks for Double-XX, but I looked around in my archives and collected everything that looked like it was relevant, and packaged it up as a downloadable XX.img disk image. I even found my original reference manual document, but it's in MacWrite, which does not run on later Macs. I searched the internet and located some code that extracts the text from MacWrite files, and rewrote it as a CompileIt XCMD, so I was able to get most of the manual out (without formatting or pictures). I cut it up into page-sized chunks and pasted it into a stack, which I also included.

Happy to know that it works also for u, as I have not tested it on this platform. I have only tested it into Mini vMac II.

Thanks for that second DL, @MacTouch. I Simply unstuffed it on my PC and drag-n-dropped the image onto the minivMac window to mount it. Beautiful. I now have HyperCard 2.1 (couldn't install newer version due to similar archive format problem), CompileIt, and Double-XX to play with for development tools. Cool.

@MikeTomTom: Have tried a couple of times to download and install Disk Copy 6.x, but run into similar problems--can't unwind the .sit file from within minivMac (have only been able to install up to Expander 4.02), and the image isn't mountable by dragging onto a running minivMac window. Not complaining, though. Have downloaded a lot of software from the Garden and been able to put together a great emulated vintage Mac that I get a lot of enjoyment from.

Thanks to both of you for the timely response on this.

So it's better to have your image here, MacTouch, as it was converted without using Disk Copy compression. I think we should delete the original upload as its not actually an original disk copy either (contains files from 1993 modified from between 2001 to 2007).

I have converted the original image to Disk Copy 4.2 under BII with Disk Copy 6.x just to use it directly under Mini vMac with the MountImage CP. Smile

@MacTouch: Both the .hqx and your .sit upload contain Disk Copy 6.x files only, they are not Disk Copy 4.2 compatible, but both will mount OK by using Disk Copy 6x.

As is, the original image cannot be converted directly to a single 800K or 1.4MB floppy image (the data in the file is 1.5MB in total).

@LeoET: Neither of the above will mount if trying to mount these with the MountImage CP. That tool will mount Disk Copy 4.2 floppy disk image files, only (and the DL's above are not floppy disk images). - However, Disk Copy 6.3, if you install it will mount either of these images OK.

The person who originally created this archive has apparently used Disk Copy 6x to create this image from 1.5MB of uncompressed data. This has resulted in a file 1.5MB in size when mounted (+ an odd 1MB free disk space).

The original archivist had also used Disk Copy 6 compression when creating this image (& it makes disk images doubly useless as they cannot be added to an emulator's GUI to be mounted as additional HD's or recoverable if they ever lose their Mac resource fork).

So it's better to have your image here, MacTouch, as it was converted without using Disk Copy compression. I think we should delete the original upload as its not actually an original disk copy either (contains files from 1993 modified from between 2001 to 2007).

@LeoET: As an alternative to extracting and mounting archives on Mini vMac, its also quite standard and useful to extract the archive on your host PC and simply drag an extracted image file directly into the running window of Mini vMac to mount the image onto the emulated Mac's desktop. Note: the extracted disk image must have been created as an uncompressed Disk image by the original Disk imaging software, in order for this to work. - I am not referring to compression as used in StuffIt, etc. but the compression that some disk imaging software such as Disk Copy 6.x can use, when creating a disk image.

Hi LeoET,

I've just added a compatible version for MinivMac. The original file seems to be compatible with newer versions of DiskCopy 4.2 only... Smile

Wouldn't mind having this one, but the ".img" file won't mount with minivMac, and is not mountable internally with MountImage control panel. I'm running SSW7.1 in minivMac on a Windows machine. Is there a way to get it installed that I don't know of?
